Description

Durham University Creative Writing Society (DUCWS) encourages creative writing of all forms, from prose to poetry to scriptwriting. We meet weekly, and out sessions operate on a rota, including writing from prompts, giving feedback to each other on pieces of work and playing writing games. We also sometimes get in outside speakers to talk to us about their experiences in the world of writing. We publish yearly anthologies of members' writings, as well as taking part in worldwide writing events like National Novel Writing Month and Script Frenzy. DUCWS is an informal friendly community of writers where everyone is welcome, regardless of style, gender, experience, etc. We support each other in our writing, and aim to create an atmosphere fitting for both inspiration and enjoyment.

Hold an author talk at least once per year to provide opportunities for writers to learn in professionals in the field.

Encourage members to write creatively
Ensure everyone is welcome
Create a supportive and friendly group of writers who are able to learn from each other and receive constructive feedback
Promote wider interest in creative writing in Durham's student community through publishing anthologies to encourage members to try hard and to produce high quality work with the incentive of publishing.
To make sure all society members and exec enjoy their time in the society.

As a ratified society of Durham Students Union, ensure that DUCWS doesn't breach the DSU equal opportunity policy or data protection use (we will inform any outside speakers that they too are bound by this).
