Home / Support services
Being a student can be hard especially during exam and assessment periods. There are so many different support services available to students so we wanted to make sure that you can find them all in one place!
Counselling Service
If you've got a serious issue affecting your wellbeing, the University's counselling service can offer support. All sessions are free and last just under an hour. You'll likely have to make an appointment but there are some drop in appointments that are allocated on a first come first served basis. You can find out more about the service here.
Nightline
The SU supports an excellent nightline service where you can speak to a fellow student during the night if you need somebody to chat to. You can talk about anything - whether that's exam stress or just wanting to get a taxi number.
The college system has lots of support whether that it your welfare officer, senior tutor or common room president. Any of these people will be happy to help.
Disability Support can offer advice and support regarding a range of disabilities such as but not limited to mental health, sensory impairments, mobility impairments and much more. If you need additional support - please contact the disability support service here.
Union Advice Service
The Union advice service can help you with academic appeals. If you're not satisfied with your grade for a particular reason, they can support you in making an appeal. Our advisers have also supported students when they've been accused of academic misconduct such as plagarism. The service also offers advice in a range of other topics from housing to financial queries.
Academic Skills Sessions
The University offers a range of academic skills programmes. The English Language Centre will specifically help international students with literacy skills. You can also attend sessions regarding statistics or to hone your IT skills. You can find out more here.
We have five associations which represent students who identify as Mature, International, LGBT+, People of Colour or students with disabilities. Several of these associations offer welfare support. Any member of the Union can join an Association for free.
The Union will be running its worksmart campaign again this year so please take advantage of everything we're putting on for you. Whether that's a Give It A Go event, a bouncy castle or by using one of the revision planners we've made. Oh, and we've heard a rumour that the puppy room is back!
Never underestimate speaking to a friend. Sometimes having a rant about any assessment or an exam can really help get it off your chest. If your fellow students are also busy with their work, home is only a phone call away.
If you've got any computer or software issues. Contact CIS on 01913341515.
