Do you want to be involved in fundraising over £100,000 for charities? Nominations to be a part of DUCK executive committee close on Friday at 17:00. No prior experience is required but if you'd like to apply, please send your name, student number and the position you'd like to run for to dsu.duck-chair@durham.ac.uk.

Phoebe Price, Communications and Publicity Officer has written a blog about the enjoyment and personal development that she has gained from the role.

"My role in DUCK is great because I get to be involved with every event that we host. From making promo videos to designing event t-shirts, my team and I are the creative powerhouse.  The best part for me, is getting to hear and share the stories of our participants.

The highlight of my time with DUCK so far has to be covering our Jailbreak challenge. If making it to the Students' Union for sunrise on a frosty November morning wasn’t impressive enough, participants fancy dress and hitchhiking efforts were stupendous. Even though two participants only got as far as Newcastle, other teams negotiated their ways onto tubes, planes, buses and ferries to get to Amsterdam, Brussels and even Alicante!  Our furthest team, made up of two Collingwood freshers, got 2147 miles to Cyprus, whilst the three teams in second place had a great time in Tenerife!

DUCK organises such a huge range of events that you’ll be able to find loads that will suit you, challenge you, and make your university experience unforgettable. In Summer, our expeditions teams travel to help charities in eight global countries – India, Tanzania, Borneo, Cambodia, Uganda, Columbia, Thailand, and Peru.  Michaelmas term brings with it jailbreak, club nights, rag raids and the notorious Santa fun run.  A team of students, having been training for six months, will also fly out to Budapest to run 26.2 miles through its streets! Epiphany term plays host to DUCK Week, Formally Lost, the DUCK Race, London Marathon, Blind Run and Triwizard Ball.  It also offers students the chance to sleep in a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the iconic setting of the Harry Potter films in our Cathedral Sleepout! Following exams, we give you the opportunity to canoe across Scotland, Cycle from London to Paris, attend the Big Band Ball and even sky dive from 15,000 feet!  All our events are great opportunities to meet new people, make great memories and support incredible causes.

Last year we raised over £100,000 for number of local, national, and international charities. These include, but certainly aren’t limited to: The British Heart Foundation, Breast Cancer Now, the RNLI, Action Against Hunger, Spout of Water, Amnesty International, BEAT and the Just For Women Centre."
